Shelley Joann Moore, age 46, of Oxford, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep early Saturday morning April 16, 2022, in Oscoda County.
Shelley was born on July 3, 1975 in Detroit, the daughter of Ronald Joseph and Mary Ellen (Lakosky) Karolak. She attended Oxford Area Schools graduating with the class of 1993. She furthered her education at Central Michigan University and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Math and Science Education. She lived the greater part of her life in Oxford.
Shelley spent her teaching career at Reuther Middle School in Rochester, where she taught Science. She was greatly loved by her co-workers who said she was the glue that held the school together, and she will be deeply missed by her students. She was heavily involved in the school, leading a number of clubs including: yearbook club, meteors, science Olympiad, and she coached girls basketball. Shelley earned numerous awards and accomplished many things: leading the science education department, being an acting member in the green schools committee, being a Mi-STAR curriculum developer, and by raising money for Reuther families in need.
She loved boating, fishing, crafting, playing cards and games, and spending time in the Upper Peninsula. Shelley was spontaneous, adventurous, had the biggest laugh, and loved being with her family and friends. She was one of a kind, and her loss will leave a huge hole in our family and our hearts.
Shelley is survived by her son Chase Alan Moore of Oxford; daughter, Zoey Elizabeth Moore of Oxford; fur-daughter, Winnie Ann Moore, parents Ronald and Mary Karolak, of Oxford, sister, Nicole (Kevin) Schunck, and nephew Joseph Schunck of Lapeer. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Robert and Mae Lakosky, and paternal grandparents, John and Harriet Karolak.
Graveside services for Shelley are on Thursday, May 13 at 10 a.m., at the Inwood Township Cemetery in Cooks, Michigan, where she will be laid to rest next to her grandparents. A celebration of life will be Saturday, May 22 at noon at her home in Oxford. Memorial contributions in Shelley’s name may be directed to the family for her children. Fausett Family Funeral Homes of Manistique is assisting the family with arrangements.
