Sr. Barbara Jean Pelak

Sr. Barbara Jean Pelak, O.P., died Sat., Oct. 15, 2016 at Lourdes Health Care Center in Waterford, MI. She was 66 and in her 42nd year in the Dominican Sisters of Oxford, now known as the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

PelakSr internetSr. Barbara Jean was born Feb. 18, 1950 to John and Angeline Bierzynski Pelak in Detroit, Michigan. She earned her degrees from Oakland Community College and served as a secretary in the Archdiocese of Detroit Central Office and in St. Cyril and Methodius Seminary.

Since 1989, most of her ministry was as a Christian Service Coordinator at St. Joseph Church in Lake Orion, St. Daniel Church in Clarkston, St. Patrick Church in Wyandotte, and most recently at Holy Innocents- St. Barnabas Parish in Roseville.

Sr. Barbara Jean is survived by her sisters, Joann McHarg of Maryland, Chris Silisavage of Fraser, Lorraine Pelak of Hamtramck, and Kathy Reggio of New Baltimore, and her brothers, Edward and Joe of St. Clair Shores, John of San Antonio, TX, Daniel and Jim of Detroit, and Michael and Phil of Hamtramck. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Tom and a sister, Carol Novak.

Visitation was held at the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse in Oxford on Sunday, Oct. 16 followed by a Vigil Service.
