Swim team thumps Avondale 146-37

The Oxford Wildcats girls swim and dive team took the top spot in every event in a meet against Avondale Thursday, October 6, ultimately winning 146-37.

The results are as follows:

In the 200 Medley Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of sophomore Claire Alexander, junior Victoria Mc Clenaghan, freshman Ashlee Weltyk, and junior captain Rachel Commons took first with a time of 2:05.74. Oxford’s B Relay of Paige Hodder, Kaleigh Rogers, Danielle Kemp, and Emily Vican came in second.

In the 200 Freestyle, Sophomore Cailin Griffith finished first with a time of 2:21.28. Mc Clenaghan finished second and Rachael Baker finished third.

In the 200 Individual Medley, Alexander took first with a time of 2:29.67. Commons and Christina Boydston rounded out the top three spots.

In the 50 Freestyle, Weltyk came in first with a time of 27.03. Sabrina Kurk took second and Vican took third for Oxford.

In the diving portion, freshman Emma Moore claimed the first place spot with a personal best score of 199.60, putting her fourth on Oxford’s All-Time Top Ten list. Freshman Sage Brocco took third with a personal best score that puts her tenth on the All-Time Top Ten List.

In the 100 Butterfly, Commons finished first with a personal-best time of 1:06.97, which puts her fourth on the All-Time Top Ten List. Kurk came in second for Oxford.

In the 100 Freestyle, Mc Clenaghan took first with a time of 1:02.61. Griffith finished second and Rogers finished third.

In the 500 Freestyle, Alexander came in first with a season-best time of 5:48.81. Kemp and Vican had a photo finish for the next two spots.

In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Kurk, Schonfeld, Mc Clenaghan, and Boydston took first with a time of 1:56.21. Oxford’s B Relay of Mattie Johnson, Rogers, Frechette, and Griffith finished second.

In the 100 Backstroke, Weltyk came in first with a season-best time of 1:05.36. Caitlyn Geda finished second and Hodder finished third.

In the 100 Breaststroke, Rogers took first with a personal best time of 1:25.48. Johnson and Baker rounded out the top three spots.

In the 400 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Alexander, Kurk, Commons, and Weltyk finished first with a time of 4:02.81. Oxford’s B Relay of Kemp, Vican, Hodder, and Griffith came in second.

Next week the team will take on Southfield High, another Blue Division team, on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Southfield High natatorium.
