Swimmers win 1st meet of season

The Varsity Swimming team was able to capture it’s first victory of the year over Swartz Creek on Thursday, Jan. 28. The Wildcats took down the Dragons 97-88.
Head Coach Jackie Boswell said that the meet was very close and exciting. ‘I am so proud of the boys and how far they have come,? she said. ‘They need to keep training hard and keep learning.?
The results were:
In the 200 Medley Relay, the A Relay of junior Kyle Shick, freshman Zachary Lavender, junior James Walker and freshman Jarred Butler finished second with a school record time of 1:56.25.
Sophomore Taylor Keller finished first in the 200 Freetyle with a personal best time of 2:16.28. Junior Corey Bell finished third and sophomore Riley McIntosh was fifth.
In the Individual Medley, Butler took first for the Wildcats with his time of 2:26.81. Sophomore Joey Tasch and Lavender were third and fourth respectively.
Walker’s time of 24.82 placed him second in the 50 Freestyle. Senior Austin Westmoreland and junior Dylan Hency were fourth and fifth respectively.
Junior Jacob Clark finished second in the diving competition with 138.50 points. Shick came in third.
In the 100 Butterfly, Walker came in first with a time of 1:06.62. Bell came in fourth.
Hency was the top Wildcat in the 100 Freestyle with his time of 1:00.82, which matches his personal best time he established last week. McIntosh came in fifth.
The Wildcats took the top two spots in the 500 Freestyle. Butler came in first with a time of 5:43.74 and Tasch came in second.
In the 200 Free Relay, the Wildcats A-Relay team of Keller, Westmoreland, Clark and Tasch came in first with a time of 1:47.20.
Shick came in first with a time of 1:09.14 in the 100 Backstroke. Keller came in fifth.
In the 100 Breaststroke, Lavender came in first for the Wildcats with his time of 1:14.29. Clark and Westmoreland came in third and fourth respectively.
The 400 Free Relay was won in school record time of 3:52.31 by Oxford’s A-Relay team of Walker, Hency, Tasch and Butler. The B-relay of Bell, McIntosh, Shick and Keller came in third.
Boswell is excited about the continual improvement the team is making before heading into next weeks showdown with Holly, one of the top teams in the league.
