The Fifth Annual Tour de Shane Bike-a-thon will return to Oxford on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The bicycle ride/walk is dedicated to increasing public awareness about suicide prevention and preserving the memory of Shane Hrischuk, a popular Oxford Middle School eighth-grader who shot himself in January 2012.

Hrischuk, who’s buried in Ridgelawn Memorial Cemetery, would have celebrated his 19th birthday on Sept. 15.

The Tour de Shane takes place both in downtown Oxford and along the Polly Ann Trail, which is adjacent to the cemetery.

Registration for the event begins at 10 a.m. at the 24th Street Sports Tavern (13 S. Washington St.) in downtown Oxford. Cost is $25 each for adults and $10 each for kids.

The ride/walk begins at 11 a.m.
