Track Cats clip Falcons’ wings

The Wildcats came to play on April 24 when they took on Rochester’s track teams. Both Oxford teams were victorious, with the girls earning an 83-45 win and the boys taking a 73-55 victory.

Antonia Vackaro, a junior, again led the ladiesteam with two event wins. She took first place in the 100 and 200 Meter events, running times of 13.26 and 26.94 seconds, respectively.

In the other running events, freshman Alaine Cusick was a big player, earning a win in the 3,200 Meter with a time of 12:43.20. Cusick also grabbed second in the 1,600 Meter contest.

Junior Mattie Johnson took a win for Oxford in the 100 Meter Hurdle with a time of 17.19 and senior Ashley Peck won the 300 Meter Hurdle with a time of 53.83. Wildcats Fiona Corcoran and Jordyn Beebe helped Oxford sweep the hurdle contests. They took second and third, respectively, in both events.

On the field, freshman Eriana Hubbard again won Shot Put with a 36 foot, six inch throw. Senior Abby Mooney ended the day for the ladies with a win in the Long Jump with a 15 foot, 7.75 inch leap.

As for the boys, juniors Scott Masterson and Shane Ross led Oxford with three event wins apiece. Ross won the 200 Meter in 23.59 seconds, the 110 Meter Hurdle in 15.12 seconds and the 300 Meter Hurdle in 38.78 seconds. Masterson took the 100 Meter with 11.65 seconds, the 800 Meter in 2:06.89 and the 1,600 Meter in 4:38.92.

The boys swept both long distance events. Led by Masterson in the 1,600 Meter, JJ Bagans and Zach Allion took second and third, respectively. In the 3,200 Meter, senior Hunter Green won with a time of 10:41.89 and Wildcats Adam Zyrowski and Allion took the second and third spots.

In the field events, junior Trey Townsend was the only Wildcat to grab an event win. He won the High Jump with a six foot leap and the Long Jump with an 18 foot, 11.5 inch jump.

Oxford will compete again on May 3 when it heads to the Harold Arft Sterling Invitational in Sterling Heights.
