Two solid games for girls tennis

Amid their goal to claim the OAA Blue title this season, the girls tennis squad made a big win and a tie this past week.

A few nights earlier on April 11, the Wildcats travelled to Harrison for a 6-2 win. Sophomore Olivia Thaler left the singles matches with 6-2 and 6-0 wins and was followed by senior Ashlyn Forman in 1 Singles with a 6-3 match win and 10-6 tie-breaker win.

All four doubles teams wrapped up the night with wins, cementing a win for Oxford.

“Great start to the season for Oxford tennis, (we’re) hoping for continued success,” Head Coach Gayle Bailey said.

In their first league meet of the season, the girls had a 4-4 draw match with Royal Oak. Though 1 Singles and 2 Singles ended in tie-breakers, junior Alura Reed took 3 Singles in two straight sets and Thaler did the same for 4 Singles.

In doubles, the 2 Doubles team of junior Adelle Frechette and sophomore Megan Griffith left with a straight win after two 6-3 sets. The 4 Doubles team of Sydney Arnold and Jillian Yocum took a win after matches of 7-5 and 6-0.

Now 1-1-1 overall, the Lady Cats will be back at it tonight, April 17, when they host Rochester. They hosted Hazel Park on April 16 after the Leader went to press.
