Wrestlers split the week

The Wildcat grapplers split this past week when they won on Wednesday’s dual meet against West Bloomfield and Waterford Kettering and then lost at the Heartland Team Tournament. The team’s record is now 13-5.
At the dual meet, Oxford beat West Bloomfield 43-26 and Waterford Kettering 75-6.
“Pretty much everyone on the team won their match against Kettering,” said head coach Paul McDevitt.
Winning their matches against West Bloomfield were Shawn Gall, Mike Potter, Kyle Rowley, Tim Breyer, Tony Lyssiotis, Kyle Oliver and Luis Gomez.
The Wildcats suffered their first dramatic loss of the season on Saturday when they lost to four of the other five competing teams.
“I just think that we had a bad weekend,” said McDevitt. “I knew this had to happen sooner or later, and I’m just glad it was sooner – most of our meets from now on are tough ones.”
Oxford lost to Grand Rapids Northview 27-36, Monroe 25-28, Heartland 25-43 and Westland John Glenn 19-57. The team won against Livonia Churchill 43-28.
Doing fairly well for the day were Potter with four wins and one loss, Rowley with three wins and one loss, and Lyssiotis going 5-0.
Topping the day for the Wildcats was Tim Breyer who went 5-0 for the day and was named Most Valuable Wrestler for the tournament.
The Oxford team opens up league competition tonight against Fenton and Holly.
“I’m hoping that we can shake off this past weekend and rebound,” said McDevitt. “The meets are tough from now on.”
