Come-from-behind victory puts icers in first place of OAA White Division

The Wildcat varsity hockey team is now in sole possession of first place in the OAA White Division with their come from behind victory over Bloomfield United Dec. 18.
Junior Nick Hocker got a hat-trick and sophomore Oscar Alexanderson stopped 41 of 44 shots during the Wildcats 4-3 victory.
Trailing 3-2 in the third period, Hocker tied the game with his second goal of the game, taking a pass from sophomore Brennon Orr and burying it behind Bloomfield’s goalie, tying the game at three.
With less then four minutes left in the game, Hocker got the game winning goal when he scored shorthanded.
While Bloomfield was on the power play, senior Cody Ruch cleared the puck to junior Dean Couwlier, who started a 2 on 1 break with Hocker.
That was Hocker’s third goal of the game. His first goal got Oxford on the scoreboard, cutting Bloomfield’s lead to 2-1.
‘I was very proud of our boys tonight,? head coach Dave Hague said. ‘We were down 2-0 and 3-2 in the game, yet we stayed focused and kept up the aggressive pressure.?
‘Bloomfield Hills is a very good team and it was a hard fought game by both teams.?
In earlier action, they had a solid 7-3 victory over Auburn Hills Avondale on Thursday, Dec. 16.
Nine players got on the scoresheet for the Wildcats, with Orr, senior Matt Reid, junior Nolan Chapman and Hocker each having three points for Oxford.
‘This was a big league game for us and I’m happy for the boys to get the win,? Hague said. ‘It wasn’t our most complete effort, but we got better as the game went on.?
The Wildcats are 5-3 on the season, 3-0 in the OAA White. Their next game is 7:30 p.m. Dec. 29 at home against Royal Oak.
