Tied for fifth in the OAA White at 2-2 (six points), the Oxford Wildcats boys’ soccer team picked up three valuable points in a 3-1 win over Seaholm on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Senior Nick Morawski got Oxford on the scoreboard about halfway through the first half, finding the back of the net on a beautiful pass from junior Zach Townsend. After the Maples tied the game shortly before half, Townsend and senior Chris Escalante added goals in the second half to help the Wildcats seal the deal.
“Huge win against the No. 14 team in the state,” head coach John Thaler said. “The boys played amazing.”
Struggling during the first half, Oxford picked it up to beat Flushing, 6-2, on the road on Thursday, Sept. 19.
Scoring five of their goals in the second half, Townsend recorded a hat trick and junior Pedro Bottene chipped in two goals.
“Came out flat but turned it around in the second half,” Thaler summarized.
Another non-league game, the Wildcats hosted Walled Lake Western on Sept. 21. With the officials calling the game with 20 minutes remaining, Oxford took the weather-shortened 3-1 win.
Townsend, Bottene and Escalante recorded the tallies in the game.
“Lots of non-starters got some quality minutes. Happy with how we controlled much of the pace of this game,” Thaler said.
Looking to pick up more valuable points, the Wildcats have a prime opportunity to move up in the standings when they host West Bloomfield on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Just 1-4 (three points) in league play, West Bloomfield is in second-to-last place in the OAA White.
