Former Leonard resident Shirley DuRocher and horse owner recently returned from the Pinto Horse Association’s annual convention with the top award.
Her horse, Krymsun Investment (Cooper) was the high point open horse for 2019. The convention was this past March in Tulsa, Oklahoma. DuRocher, now of Metamora, received a belt buckle and trailer for Cooper’s award.
Cooper, under the direction of Justin and Jamie (Sharp) Stohlman, also won the Pinto championship and five Horse of the Year awards — Open English Pleasure, Open Hundeter Under Sadlle, Open Ideal English, Open Ideal Western and Open Western Pleasure.
According to DuRocher those were “hunter” types of awards as Cooper is designated as being a half thoroughbred pinto.
Cooper is a seven-year-old, 16.3 hand overo — he stands out with his size and color. “No one looking at him would think he would be a pretty awesome horse, he surprised us,” DuRocher said.
