Relay honors 85 survivors

There were, no doubt, a few tired Orion residents at work earlier this week, but their sleepy eyes were the result of a great effort over the weekend.
The annual Relay for Life, to raise money for cancer research, returned.
The event, held May 19-20, moved to Friendship Park this year, and Chairperson Teri Donaldson said they’ve found a new home.
The relay honored 85 cancer survivors and included a survivor walk and balloon release as well as a live auction and several other activities throughout the night.
‘We had 30 teams that, to date, have raised over $75,000,? Donaldson said, noting they aren’t finished yet. ‘We still have the car show, ‘Custom Rides for Savinig Lives,? at the high school on June 30th and a golf outing at Fieldstone on June 11th.
‘Our top fundraising team so far is ‘Blaze the Trail,? made up of Orion Township employees in memory of Tom Blazak,? Donaldson noted.
