Silverman seeks approval for township retail center

Brandon Twp.- The township could soon see another retail development near M-15.
Silverman Development Company will seek site plan approval for a neighborhood retail center at the planning commission meeting set for 7:30 p.m., Aug. 28, at the township offices, 395 Mill St.
The center, which would be 15,000 square feet total, would be located north of Seymour Lake Road and just south of the entrance to the Long Lake Village subdivision off M-15. Silverman sold 70 acres of property to Centex Homes in 2004, for the Long Lake Village subdivision, but kept 4-and-a-half acres of M-15 frontage that is zoned commercial. The center is the final phase of the project.
‘We’ve had interest from banks and medical buildings,? said Silverman President Steve Robinson. ‘We’re the only retail property on M-15 with water and sewer at this time. We will allow users that would otherwise need to build septic fields. We have plenty of capacity, we’re not concerned about tenants.?
Planning and Building Director Tim Palulian noted that while it is zoned commercial, there is ‘a significant portion of the property that has regulated wetlands that the township and the state will be carefully scrutinizing through the review process.?
Robinson said once approved, Silverman would start lining up tenants and the center would likely be built next year, possibly in the spring.
Other recently approved plans for the M-15-Brandon Township corridor:
n A 122,000 square-foot retail development by Brandon Development-Lockwood LLC, to be located south of Brandon High School.
n A 144-unit apartment complex to be developed by Silverman, north of Solley’s Appliance and Fireplace Center.
