Woman fights off assault

Brandon Twp.- Police are investigating an assault on a woman that occurred early Wednesday morning in the Clarkston Lakes Mobile Home Park.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Mike Searing of the Brandon substation said the woman, in her mid-20s, was asleep on the couch with her 2-year-old child when she was awakened by a window breaking in the rear of the home located in the 3700 block of Red Bud Lane. While investigating the noise, she encountered a male suspect, armed with an edged weapon, in the hallway. A struggle ensued, during which she managed to get a door between them. She pushed the door and escaped the home with her child to a neighbor’s home. The suspect fled the scene.
‘Evidence at the scene led to an arrest,? said Searing. ‘The investigation is continuing. The victim in this case did an excellent job of defending herself and her child and evidence will be presented to the prosecutor’s office for charges.?
The victim suffered bumps and bruises during the struggle.
The suspect, also in his 20s, is a resident of the same mobile home park, but unknown to the victim. He has a prior criminal history.
