Know of a person, business or group that deserves recognition for the hard work and contributions they make to the community?
The Clarkston area Chamber of Commerce wants to hear about all the local unsung heroes as it begins accepting nomination for the 23rd annual Clarkston Community Awards.
‘People misunderstand that you have to be a chamber member to submit a nomination,? said Chamber Executive Director Penny Shanks. ‘But anyone can nominate’we want to hear from anyone who is aware of a partnership between organizations, or about someone who volunteers’anything that helps make our community better.?
Nominations are due by April 4; the Chamber will hold an awards breakfast at Deer Lake Athletic Club Thurs., May 22.
Each winner will be honored at the breakfast with a video or Power Point presentation highlighting the contributions that individual, group or business has made to the community.
The Chamber’s award categories recognize both charitable and for-profit efforts.
‘These are really community awards,? said Shanks, noting that while the Chamber facilitates the event, representatives from Clarkston Community Schools and Independence Township serve as co-chairs.
‘Even though we’re in a hometown, and we know a lot about what happens here, I’m always learning about great things and great people who give so much to make our community what it is.?
Shanks said the Chamber does not place limits or restrictions on the number of nominations that can be sent by any one person, and encouraged multiple submissions where appropriate.
Categories include Citizen of the Year; Young Person of the Year; Businessperson of the Year; Adult-Youth Volunteer; Community Preservation; Community Beautification; Community Enhancement; and Community Collaboration.
Nomination forms are available at the Clarkston area Chamber of Commerce office, 5856 South Main Street, and will soon be available on the Chamber’s website at www.clarkston.org
