All about alpacas

Breeders from 75 alpaca farms arrived at Springfield Oaks last week to showcase nearly 200 alpacas during the Michigan Alpaca Breeders Show and Fiber Fair.
Demonstrations included shearing, spinning, weaving, felting and alpaca sock-making. The show also included a parade, halter show and performance event.
Alpacas are cousin to, but about half the size of a llama, and are characterized by padded feet, few teeth, soft fiber, and a curious, friendly personality.
The show was hosted by Phil and Judy Maybee, who own Pebble Brook Farm Alpacas in Ortonville.
