Brandon Twp.- David Kwapis will be promoted to fire chief upon the retirement of current Chief Bob McArthur.
The decision was made official on Tuesday, following the approval of the township board by a 5-0 vote. Clerk Jeannie McCreery and Treasurer Linda Owen were absent.
McArthur is expected to retire early next year.
Kwapis, 41, is a lifelong Brandon Township resident and joined the Brandon Fire Department in Aug. 1987 as a paid on-call firefighter.
He became a full-time firefighter in April 1991, was promoted to sergeant in July 1997 and attained the rank of captain in August 2005. In March, he was made administrative captain.
Kwapis was recommended to become fire chief by the Fire Authority Board and McArthur.
‘He has the respect of the firefighters of our department and will make an excellent fire chief,? said McArthur.
