A 19-year-old Brandon Township man is facing jail time after pleading no contest to multiple charges from a baseball bat assault last April.
Nicholas Goff pleaded no contest in front of Sixth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Edward Sosnick on Sept. 5 to third degree home invasion, two counts of assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder, resisting or obstructing police officers, and domestic violence.
According to police reports, on April 11 Brandon deputies were dispatched to the 3900 block of Granger Road for an assault and battery with a baseball bat. They arrived to find the responsible, Goff, had fled. The homeowner said he had been awakened by yelling and outside found two men, one of whom was laying on the ground unconscious and bleeding from the head. The other, his daughter’s boyfriend, had a shoulder injury.
The complainant’s daughter said Goff, her ex-boyfriend, had showed up and wanted to fight her current boyfriend. She told him to leave and he pushed her to the ground a few times, at which time her boyfriend came out of the house to stop him.
Goff grabbed a baseball bat and swung at him. The victim ducked and then was struck in the shoulder. The victim’s friend then attempted to intervene and was struck on the head and face two or three times by the bat-wielding Goff.
The victim with the head injury was taken to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital and later told police he had a concussion, several broken bones in his face and needed reconstructive surgery.
Three days later, Brandon deputies were dispatched to the CHOICES alternative high school, 330 Sherman Court, to arrest Goff, a student there. Goff resisted arrest, striking the deputies with his fists before finally being tasered and transported to the Oakland County Jail.
