Ortonville may be the smallest Main Street community in Oakland County, but the village won big Nov. 14 at the MSOC Main Event.
The annual appreciation party honors 12 communities in the county that are in Main Street, an economic development program. The Ortonville Downtown Development Authority received two awards during the party? one for most volunteer hours, 5,500, and another for outstanding event series for the Beets, Beats & Eats farmers market.
‘I’m very proud of Ortonville and so pleased the community is getting recognition,? said Main Street Manager/DDA Executive Director Molly LaLone. ‘We had no idea we’d be in the running because we’re the smallest community.?
Ortonville was named a Main Street community in 2004 and as such receives free technical assistance from architects, planners, and more.
LaLone said the DDA will focus on more support programs for the merchants in 2009. Also being planned are retail events during BB&E, a monthly Coffee Club Series at the Old Town Hall with speakers to address different merchant issues, and a business owner survey.
