Ortonville- Fred Morden is ready to take on fresh challenges as the newly assigned Brandon Groveland Youth Assistance caseworker.
‘It’s a tough situation because (this position) really needs a full-time person, but because of the economy, the county can’t do it,? said Morden. ‘We’ll do what we can… The board of directors is really active and I like coming to an active community.?
Morden, 59, has 26 years of experience as an Oakland County caseworker. He retired from the county in 2003, but in the years since, has served as a part-time caseworker four times, most recently for Holly Youth Assistance. Morden has a bachelor’s degree in education and psychology from Wayne State University.
BGYA helps local children and families through programs including Mentors Plus, STARS, Adopt-a-Camper, and family education. As caseworker, Morden will counsel children in the community and help families with truancy issues, tutoring, referrals, or group-related work.
‘The economy is affecting a lot of families here, especially around the holidays,? Morden said. ‘I’ve been reading over the cases. This program seems to work closely with the elementaries, intermediate and middle schools. I like it here, the people are great. I know some of the social workers, and principals and teachers and they’re all welcoming. So far, I’m enjoying it.?
