An Ortonville man remains in jail on his third domestic violence offense.
Arthur Kenneth Bergeron, 41, was arraigned on the charge by Magistrate Marie Soma on July 4 and has a $10,000 cash bond.
According to police reports, at about 12:52 a.m., July 4, deputies responded to Village Court for family trouble. The complainant, the victim’s daughter, met the deputies outside with two witnesses. The daughter said she was afraid to be in the house due to fighting between her mother and her mother’s boyfriend of eight years, Bergeron. The deputies approached the residence and observed Bergeron and a woman in a heated argument. Bergeron was yelling profanities at the woman and told her it was her fault they were arguing. The woman yelled back at him and the deputies then observed Bergeron throwing punches at the woman and kicking at her as she put her arms up to block the blows and backed away. Deputies rushed to the door and knocked, yelling for someone to open the door. When no one responded, they kicked the door in.
Deputies arrested Bergeron, despite the protests of the woman.
The victim’s daughter said she had come into the apartment from the neighbor’s house and saw Bergeron throw a full can of beer at her mother’s head.
Witnesses said the argument began when the woman asked Bergeron when he was going to grill.
