Last year, Independence Township Senior Center vehicles drove a total of 76,366 miles. The third annual Bucks for Buses event is designed to help them go a few miles more.
Bucks for Buses will be at Bullfrogs Bar and Grill, 2225 South Ortonville Road, 5-9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 13.
Clarkston Medical Group staff members are pitching in, donating $2 to sport CMG t-shirts on casual Fridays, along with a button that says ‘We dress down for charity? All proceeds support Bucks for Buses, which provides free transportation for seniors.?
‘Our goal was to inject a source of funding to the Bucks for Buses, but at the same time be a catalyst to get other businesses in the Clarkston community to adopt casual day for a cause to raise proceeds for their favorite charity,? said Carrie Gorsk.
Organizations such as SCAMP, Clarkston Foundation, Clarkston Band Boosters, Clarkston Athletic Boosters, Clarkston High School’s Robotics Team, and Lighthouse North are invited to participate, Gorsk said.
‘Clarkston is a great community. We’ve been very blessed and very fortunate. I think there are so many people who have done so much through their volunteering and contributed in any way that they can,? she said. ‘It’s really important that we help these organizations now more than ever, so they can continue to do their good works for our community.?
The fundraiser is chaired by CMG President Dr. Tim O’Neill, and co-chaired by Dr. Michael Baker and Dr. Robert Barnes.
Baker with be providing live entertainment with his three sons, Vince, Mike, and Max, all in the 40 Buffalo Band and Friends.
‘The most fun I’ve ever had playing music is with my sons,? he said.
Vince agreed.
‘It’s great playing with my dad,? he said. ‘As well as being involved in the community.?
The menu special will be the ‘Baker Burger,? a healthy turkey burger on a whole wheat bun.
There is no cover charge, but donations are appreciated.
‘It’s a real opportunity for the community to begin supporting some of these community needs. I think we’re really at a critical time in our country right now where there is tremendous change financially, politically, socially, and we appear to be in a era where the government is getting increasingly involved in private industry, and involved in healthcare, involved in every aspect of our life,? Baker said.
‘I think it’s a good thing that community people can do something to support a community resource like the senior citizens transportation and not just rely on the government to provide that.?
