With 25 thrift stores already in Southeastern Michigan, Salvation Army is venturing into new territory as they set their eyes on Clarkston area.
The new store will be located at the former Farmer Jack located at the corner of Waldon and Sashabaw Road.
‘We are very excited,? said Colleen Kinney, director of community relations for The Salvation Army, Southeast Michigan, Adult Rehabilitation Center. ‘This is a new place for us and we’re hoping people will be supportive.?
The 40,142 square-foot store, which is the third largest in the southeast region, will offer an assortment of items, mainly clothes, but there will also toys, books, as well as cosmetic type items, new mattresses, box springs, and bed frames.
‘It has a department store feel to it that is well-organized? Kinney said. ‘It’s a good option for a good price.?
She also added that thrift shopping is becoming more and more a popular thing to do, especially with ‘limited resources? due to the current economic condition.
‘More people are trying us,? she said. ‘Kids love us, moms love us, and treasure hunters love us.?
Not only will the building serve a re-sale store, but also as a drop off site for donations of new and gently used items. All donations are tax deductible.
Kinney said the donation center at the store will be open in early October, which is a way to help get the store stocked with items.
Revenue generated by the Thrift Store funds The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Center program, which helps participants learn to live a balanced lifestyle through work therapy, individual and group counseling, and the practical application of the Christian faith.
‘We are also looking to 25 to 30 full and part-time staff,? Kinney said.
Once opened store hours will be between 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Mon.-Thurs. and 9 a.m. ? 10 p.m. Fri. and Sat.
‘After about a month of being open we will start our five for five sales on Fridays and Saturdays,? noted Kinney. ‘People will be able to buy five clothing items for $5.?
