Many people say ‘Clarkston is a cute town.? Peg Roth and Kevin Harrison believe that attractive quality can be increased.
‘We’re in a great location,? Harrison said. ‘We have such a better location than Lake Orion, Oxford, then Fenton, than so many of these other areas because of our proximity to I-75.?
Roth and Harrison have spearheaded a ‘Clarkston Retailers group? to use the term ‘My Clarkston Buy Clarkston? literally as a way to promote the businesses directly in the Village of the City of Clarkston.
‘There was a focus meeting for the Clarkston Chamber of Commerce and Kevin and I talked about it afterwards,? Roth said.
‘Since we’re both downtown we wanted to really focus on the downtown retailers, where this other focus group is about Clarkston, Independence Township, Chamber, Dixie Highway and all of that.?
The group meets once a month to discuss ways of promoting each other’s businesses, upcoming events in the city and recapping on the success of prior events.
‘We’re going to rotate the meetings so each business owner can take advantage of having people come in and see their place,? Roth said. ‘We will serve wine and stuff to nibble on.?
It’s a way of working together to put the power back into the retailer’s hands, noted Harrison.
‘At some point again Clarkston will be really hopping and we all want to make sure that we’re all in the best shape when that happens,? he said. ‘We hope people recognize that we’re doing something so that they join.?
Roth said she understand people can’t make every meeting, but would at least like to see interest from the business owners and the community.
Upcoming events include a ‘Holiday Walk? on Nov. 7, which will include family shopping from 11 a.m to 5 p.m. and adult shopping from 5 to 9 p.m. along with refreshments. On Dec. 12 there will also be a 5K run and family fun 1 mile on after the Christmas parade.
Roth is also hoping
‘It’s a positive thing for everybody downtown, even for the residents to know retailers are supportive of each other and we want to improve,? Roth said.
