‘Extraordinary’

It was a long list: construction of baseball and soccer fields, a rock wall and a community playscape; development efforts for the Polly Ann Trail.
Over the years, Larry Mullins also assisted when the Porritt Barn and later the Howarth School were moved to Friendship Park. He helped excavate the Orion Veteran’s Memorial.
For those contributions and others, Mullins was honored Monday by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.
?’the qualities of life on which we pride ourselves in Oakland County are exemplified by the commitment and dedication of special individuals like Larry Mullins,? said County Commissioner and Vice Chair Michael Gingell, reading from a proclamation given at Monday’s township board meeting. ‘Larry Mullins has been a resident of the Lake Orion community for over 52 years, where he has spent his life supporting his family, his business and also the community in a quiet, humble manner.?
Also on hand were former Commissioner Niles Olson, former Commissioner and former State Senator Matt Dunaskiss, former commissioner Larry Obrecht, and former commissioner Eric Wilson, who currently serves on the Road Commission for Oakland County.
Collectively, Gingell said, the five represented 41 years of county representation for Orion.
‘During that time we’ve all had the pleasure of interacting with Larry Mullins,? Gingell said.
Mullins shared memories of growing up on baseball and potluck dinners in Orion’s ‘small town community atmosphere.?
‘I’ve been fortunate to grow up in a community that instilled upon youth to want to give back and to improve on what we grew up with,? he said.
