Brandon Twp.- Rex needs a home.
The 4-year-old Irish wolfhound had a loving home just two months ago with a couple in their early 60s. Then the wife was involved in a severe car accident in which she nearly died. She has made a miraculous recovery, but her doctor will not allow her to bring the dog back home for fear Rex, who weighs 120 pounds and stands about 35 inches at the shoulder, may inadvertently knock her down. Such a fall could be fatal for the woman, who suffered a traumatic brain injury.
For now, Rex stays with Steve Robinson, owner of Common Scents Canine Center, 3100 Granger Road.
‘He normally boards here, and we’ve done some work with him,? said Robinson. ‘He’s very playful, gives kisses, loves to play ball. I’ve never seen a wolfhound who loves to retrieve like he does.?
Rex likes older children, but is not familiar with being around younger kids. He gets along well with older dogs, but a home with small dogs would not be a good fit.
Robinson said he has worked on Rex’s training and would continue to work with any potential adoptee family at no charge to ensure a smooth transition.
