Everyone knows the library as a place to check out a good book or two.
But the Oxford Public Library is offering a new service for Valentine’s Day ? the chance to find true love.
On Thursday, Feb. 11, the library, located at 530 Pontiac Road, will host a speed dating event for book lovers.
Participants will be asked to bring a book they’re currently reading, have recently read or even an all-time favorite.
They will go from table to table in the Rotary Community Room discussing their books with others.
Library Adult Specialist Sarah Emino said each couple will be given about 10 minutes to chat before moving on to the next table with a new person.
‘It’s partially going to depend on how many people we have,? she said.
Romantic refreshments will be served.
‘It will be something chocolate,? Emino said. ‘I haven’t quite decided yet.?
Registration is required and can be done by calling (248) 628-3034 or by visiting www.oxford.lib.mi.us. This event is for people age 18 and older.
Emino got the idea to do this from a library in Gainesville, Florida that hosted a similar event. ‘They did it and were very successful with it years ago,? she said. ‘I decided to try it here.?
Emino said the library is attempting to broaden its public appeal.
‘We’re trying to aim some of our programs at a wider age group? she explained. ‘We have many programs that seem to attract people 50 and up. We’d like to get some 30 and 40-somethings. We’d like all ages to come.?
