A 53-year-old Ortonville man who left a trail of destruction in Ferndale has been charged with drunk driving and heroin possession.
Ronald Eugene Lamm has been arraigned on a charge of operating while intoxicated, second offense, a 1-year misdemeanor as well as a charge of possession of a controlled substance under 25 grams, a 4-year felony.
According to Ferndale Police, officers responded to a hit-and-run injury accident at about 12:14 a.m., March 1 on 8 Mile Road near Fair Street in which a Ford Ranger pick-up truck hit a mini-van occupied by two women. The truck fled the scene, and one of the women was taken by ambulance to the hospital. The women were later determined to have minor injuries.
Officers tracked the fleeing vehicle by following debris and fluid left in the roadway. The trail revealed the pick-up truck also struck a tree and stop sign, which it dragged along with it, near Shevlin and Chester streets. Farther down the road, the truck ran into a parked vehicle.
Lamm was found in a home on Chester, where an acquaintance of his resides. They determined he was the hit-and-run driver, conducted sobriety tests, and arrested him for drunk driving. They also found he was in possession of two packets of heroin and had a prior conviction for drunk driving.
He was lodged at the Oakland County Jail, with bond set at $1,000.
