The devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on Jan. 12 lasted about 35 seconds.
The recovery will take years.
On March 27 students at Goodrich High School gathered for a night to help the victims of Haiti and also have some fun.
GHS National Honor Society organized the first annual Spring Fling dance at the Goodrich High School cafeteria all the proceeds benefited relief efforts in Haiti through Catholic Relief Services an international humanitarian agency that provides assistance to people in need in more than 100 countries.
‘We raised more than $900,? said GHS senior Rachel Hull, who chaired the dance’s committee. Tickets were $5 and local business such as Cranberries, Shear Madness, Four Seasons Karate, Lucy’s Pet Supplies and Sears Hometown Store in Fenton and Howell also helped sponsored the event.
‘The decorations all came from my house and students brought in food like cupcakes and cookies,? she said. ‘And a Goodrich graduate, Matt Fauth, was the DJ for free. So we really didn’t spend that much money at all, more could go toward Haiti relief.?
‘I’m glad that our school could help out the Haiti cause and have a good time doing it,? said senior Kevin Hergenreder who attended the dance. ‘I’m so thankful for all the people that came to the dance and for our sponsors. We raised a lot of money for a great cause,? Hull said.
. Senior Aubree Frownfelter and Junior Dylan Elizondo were announced the Spring Fling Queen and King and there were raffles for movie passes.
