She’s the woman who gave you life, kissed your boo-boos when you fell off your bicycle, made your grilled cheese sandwiches after school and tucked you in at night.
She wiped your tears, listened to your problems, then, in a soothing voice, told you everything was going to be all right.
She goes by many names ? Mom, Mother, Mommy and Ma ? but the importance of her role is always the same.
The Oxford Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is honoring that special woman in everyone’s life with a Mother’s Day makeover contest featuring several downtown businesses.
Nominations are being accepted now through April 30. The winning mother will be notified in person at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1.
The lucky mom will receive a massage from Soothe Your Soul; makeup from Villa di Goochi; facial and manicure or pedicure from Downtown Salon; hairstyling from ReGina Paul Salons; shoes from Oxford Family Shoes; accessories from Beadifferent; a purse from Pink and Charlie; an outfit from Ella Fashion; and a photo-shoot from OC Photoworx.
The winner will also receive dinner-for-two at either the Ox Bar & Grill, Casa Real, Red Knapp’s American Grill or Victoria’s Delights, plus two tickets to the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce Spring Fashion Show May 13.
Lisi DeCampos, owner of Ella Fashion at 24 S. Washington St., came up with the idea and pitched it to the DDA.
‘I’m a mom and I would love to have a makeover,? she noted. ‘I love watching those makeover shows on TV.?
When she looked around downtown Oxford, DeCampos realized ‘we have all the services needed to make over a mom.?
The prize package is worth between $600 and $700, according to DeCampos, who noted it’s a way for the businesses ‘to give back to the community.?
Oxford Community Television (Channel 97) is planning to document the entire makeover experience.
DeCampos indicated it will also be shown on-line at YouTube and Facebook.
‘We’re going to try to make this promotion really big,? she said.
Nomination forms can be obtained at participating downtown businesses or by visiting www.downtownoxford.org.
Only one nomination per mother, please.
