Orion woman gets two years on sex charge

An Orion Township woman charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct was sentenced to two years? confinement in the Michigan State Prison system April 1.
Norma Elisa Lira, 32, was charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct: fellatio, with a person at least 13 years of age, but under 16. The charge is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
Lira, who remained lodged at Oakland County Jail on $50,000 bond since she was arrested January 27 by Orion Township Deputies, pled ‘no contest,? which, for purposes of sentencing, is treated as a ‘guilty? plea.
According to information released by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, investigators began to build a case after the suspect’s husband reported his wife may have committed a sexual act with a 13-year-old boy, also an Orion resident.
The alleged assault, said a statement released by Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe, took place in December 2009 at the suspect’s home on Flintridge street.
McCabe said Lira, who has no prior criminal record, was visiting relatives in Texas when the warrant was issued, and voluntarily returned to face the charge.
In addition to the prison sentence, Lira will also be placed on the sex offender registry.
