Township Park Club forming

Brandon Twp.- A new group is forming to move development of the park forward in challenging economic times.
An organizational meeting of the Brandon Community Park Club will be at 7 p.m., May 13, at the township offices, 395 Mill St.
‘Anyone interested in raising money to help fund park development is encouraged to come,? said Township Supervisor Kathy Thurman. ‘Eventually, we’d like to host poker parties and other fundraising options will be discussed and decided on.?
At the first meeting, club officers will be elected and bylaws approved. The organization will operate independent from the township as a 501 c 3 non-profit corporation. Money raised by the group’s efforts will be used for pathways, parking areas and baseball fields at the park located at 1414 N. Hadley Road.
For the past few years, the park has been the main beneficiary of cell tower revenues (roughly $52,000 per year) and recreation registration fees (about $10,000-$12,000 annually).
‘Given the current economy, the township will not be in a position to appropriate any funding from cell tower revenues toward park development any time soon,? Thurman said, and added that even registration fees may be redirected at some point. ‘We are hoping to create a strong group of volunteers to continue this effort.?
