A two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Lakeville Rd., west of Wildcat Drive, claimed the life of an 84-year-old Oxford woman.
At about 10:43 a.m., Roberta Jean Petty was headed east in her 1999 Ford Crown Victoria when she crossed the centerline and was struck head-on by a westbound 2005 Ford Ranger.
Both Petty and a 79-year-old male passenger in the pickup truck had to be removed from the mangled vehicles by firefighters, according to Oxford Fire Lt. Brad Horton.
‘The door was open (on the Crown Victoria), so all we had to do was put her on a backboard,? he said. ‘The gentleman that was a passenger in the pickup truck had to be extricated with the jaws of life.?
Both victims were transported as Priority One patients to the POH Regional Medical Center in Pontiac.
Petty died at the hospital at 11:55 a.m. The 79-year-old man is listed in stable condition.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 39-year-old Oxford man, was uninjured other than a couple scrapes and bruises, according to Horton. He was treated and released at the scene.
‘He was out walking around when we got here,? the lieutenant noted.
Alcohol was not a factor in this crash and both drivers were wearing seat belts.
The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit.
