After raising $10,000 last year for nonprofit national and global disaster relief team Convoy of Hope, Bridgewood Church is holding their second annual ‘One Day to Feed the World.?
‘Our goal was $6,000, and people were so generous that we were able to do that,? said Pastor Sue Marquis. ‘I don’t know if we’d be able to do that again, I understand the economy is rough, but we’re upping our goal to $7,000 – $7,500.?
The church is challenging people to give one day’s wage toward the effort to feed the hungry around the world.
‘We don’t want this to be ‘Bridgewood church gives back,?? said Pastor Curt Demoff. ‘We want this to be ‘Oakland County gives back.??
Marquis agreed.
‘I want every single person to feel like they want to help feed the world. We’re seeing so many tragedies and disasters around the world that I know every person who reads the paper wants to do something to help,? she said. ‘This is a solid way they can do it.?
‘What Convoy of Hope will do is for every $100 that we collect, it turns into $400,? Demoff said. ‘It costs $6,000 to fill a semi-truck, which will multiply in $50,000 worth of food.?
The church is also hosting a community outdoor family movie and fun night, Aug 27, featuring the movie ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,? as well as inflatables.
‘The event is free, but we are asking that people make a donation to Convoy of Hope,? Demoff said. ‘The movie will begin at dark, roughly around 9:30 p.m., but doors open at 7:30 p.m.?
A 5K run/ family one-mile event is set for Aug. 29, starting at 8:30 a.m. Cost of registration before Aug 21 is $20, and $25 after.
‘We’re hoping that this 5K, especially the family one-mile walk or run, will be an open door to talk to your children about world hunger and the different needs around the world.,? said Pastor Sue Marquis. ‘We’re going to have different things along the one mile just to make it fun for the kids and then they get to come back to a really fun rally, with inflatables, and a gymnastic course they can play on and go through.?
The rally will start at 10 a.m. and include special guest speaker L. Brooks Patterson.
‘The rally point is just going to give us all an opportunity to come together and recognize that we’re grateful for the things that we have,? Demoff said. ‘But we do want to pay back and give back what we can.?
