X-country teams finish third in OAA debut

The Wildcats Boys and Girls Cross Country teams put forth solid efforts with third place finishes in their first appearance in the Oakland Activities Association Sept. 14.
Coach Ray Sutherland was pleased with how the teams ran in their first OAA test.
‘I was very pleased with our first competition in the OAA. We ran real well,? Sutherland said. ‘I thought we would be competitive and we were.?
Sophomore runner Brooke Kovacic was the overall champion on the girls side, setting a sophomore record with her time of 18:56. Junior Brittany Johnson finished ninth with a time of 20:56.
Coming in third for the Wildcats was junior Chelsea Johnson, who was 14th overall with a time of 21:20 and sophomore Abby Wrobel placed 24th with a time of 21:56.
Rounding out the top five for the Wildcats was sophomore Lauren Moloney, whose time of 22:21 placed her 31st.
For the boys, sophomore Ryan Gillespie led the way for Oxford with a time of 17:00. He finished third overall. Senior Dylan Smith finished fourth with a time of 17:01.
Junior Alec Smith was 23rd with a time of 18:16. Rounding out the top five for Oxford was sophomore Ross Chapman, who finished 24th with a time of 18:17 and freshman Noah Jenkins, who finished 28th with a time of 18:22.
The next action the cross country teams will see is on Tuesday, Sept. 28 in the second of three OAA Jamborees.
