Hoping to push America back towards a ‘free market system,? Saving America founder Carl Knaus hosted ‘The Last Chance Tea Party? in Depot Park, Saturday.
He urged people to the polls, Nov. 2, to vote out anyone who supports the current government system
‘The majority of Americans across the United States want this government thrown out because they are wrecking our country,? Knaus said to a crowd of about 30 who came to show support, despite the rain, wind, and cold.
‘America is heading back towards the system that gives us the freedom to work hard, keep most of our money to spend the way we want in order enjoy life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.?
Topics included unemployment, home foreclosures, and healthcare.
‘I’m sick and tired of the Federal Reserve running this country and the Obama puppets toward socialism,? said supporter Lynn Whitkopf.
Sheryl Cross and her husband said they decided to put their money where their mouth is.
‘Today we saw the flyer, it was kind of a last minute thing, said ‘let’s go check it out and start getting involved,?? Cross said. ‘We agree with everything (that was said). The country has been running in the wrong direction, people got to start stepping up to start speaking out to start making changes.?
However, Hector Bueno disagreed with the group’s views. Bueno said America is a ‘hybrid of capitalism and socialism.?
‘We cannot just have one pure form of government ? it just doesn’t work,? he said.
Bueno also felt there needed to be greater concentration on issues.
‘What is it about the healthcare that’s taking us to socialism, when in fact it’s really probably solving an issue there, we would have from the insurance companies and healthcare,? he said. ‘Personally, I feel it’s ‘I hate Obama? and that’s all it is.?
Stephanie Vanicelli showed up near the end of the rally after seeing a sign for the event downtown.
‘I think it’s really important people our age (in her 20s) get involved in today’s politics, both nationally and internationally,? she said. ‘I think it’s really important to know what’s going on every single day.?
Vanicelli, who said she was a ‘History Channel Guru,? felt there is a lack of awareness right now, and being educated on current events is important.
‘You see on the news Lindsay Lohan. Really? I feel bad for the girl, but who cares, that’s not news, that is just gossip and doesn’t affect other people’s lives,? she said. ‘This could affect everybody’s life, that’s why I think it’s important.?
Though he wished there would have been more, Knaus said those who showed up ‘were very dedicated” and counted the day a success.
