Just a few weeks since Clarkston Community Church put out their community challenge to raise $10,000 to save July Fourth events and fireworks, the community is stepping up to the challenge.
‘It’s pretty amazing because we haven’t really banged down any doors or anything yet, people are just coming out and showing this is important,? said Ken Elwert, parks and recreation director for Independence Township. ‘I hope this continues for a little bit and if we get enough community support, we’ll have it all organized by the end of April.?
Clarkston Medical Group said they’ll donate $1,000 to help the July 4 celebration continue.
After reading about the challenge in the Clarkston News, Graphic Wizard owner Edwina Burkett, who’s lived in the township for 20 years, decided to ‘support the community in hard times.? Graphic Wizard joined the challenge by printing ‘Save Independence Township Fireworks? T-shirts and will sell them for $10 each. All proceeds will go towards July 4.
On the back of the T-shirt is a list of sponsors including The Graphic Wizard, A New Leaf Flower Studio, TNR Disposal Service, Lakeview Food Basket, Clarkston Taxi & Limo, Spectrum Printing, Lil? Peoples Place, and Clarkston Community Church.
The shirts can be purchased at Independence Township Parks and Rec, 6483 Waldon Center Drive; The Graphic Wizard, 4728 Clarkston Road; Lakeview Food and Basket, 4710 Clarkston Road; A New Leaf Flower Studio, 4783 Lakeview Boulevard; and Clarkston Community Church, 6300 Clarkston Road.
‘It’s basically a kind of tradition that would nice to be kept around and we do work with the township as well,? said Jennifer Czech, a worker at Graphic Wizard. ‘It’s just nice to give back and help out.?
