A trio of local young men decided to complete their Eagle Scout service giving back to the community.
Ian Cheney, William Criel, and Ian Palmer settled on improving and renovate Friendship Park by adding trail directional signs, botanical identification signs, and building benches for public use.
At the Orion Township Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, March 7, Supervisor Matthew Gibb personally thanked the scouts for their effort and presented them with certificates of appreciation on behalf of the community.
We’re recognizing you tonight because you’ve done a great and wonderful thing for us,? said Gibb. ‘You’ve made Friendship Park a better place for us to enjoy for young men like yourself and old men like me.?
Handing Criel the microphone, Gibb asked him to detail what the scouts did to improve the park.
‘With the help of my troop, we used GPS units to map out the trails in the park, and sandblasted the new map into the signs we put up,? said Criel. ‘Once the signs were in place, we painted them up so they looked nice, and stand out a bit more at the trail intersections.
Palmer was not able to attend, but also received a certificate.
Gibb finished the small ceremony by wishing the boys luck in their future endeavors, and expressed hope they would move back once done with their college careers.
