Ortonville- Larry Brown announced his retirement as the village manager during the May 23 village council meeting.
‘I am retiring at the end of August,? said Brown. ‘This (position) takes a lot of time and energy and I want to dedicate more time to my family.?
Brown was hired as the village treasurer in January 2008. He became the village manager in April 2010 after Bill Sprague resigned.
‘As much as we hate to see you go, we are grateful to you,? said Council President Wayne Wills to Brown Monday night. ‘I appreciate your honesty and integrity and ability to help me through my learning curve following last November’s election.?
Brown, who will be 63 when he retires, said working in Ortonville has been a positive experience.
‘I really value the relationships I’ve formed since I’ve been here,? he said. ‘I’m very appreciative of this council and the last one and for their kindness and cooperation as we did the work for the village. I’m glad we were able to get some roads done last summer and hopeful we can get some done this summer.?
Brown notes the village has been very fortunate with their budget, which has a fund balance of roughly $500,000, or 97 percent.
The village council is not yet accepting resumes for the village manager position. The personnel committee has been reviewing the personnel manual and various positions the past few months and plans to put together a timetable for reviewing the job description of village manager, Wills said.
