Dragons crush Lakers

Lake Orion traveled to West Bloomfield Sept. 16 to battle the Lakers, and the football game quickly became a rout with the Dragons winning, 42-14.
Any suspense was short lived. The scoring started four plays into the game, when junior wide receiver Jeremy King ran in his first touchdown after catching a 20-yard pass from senior quarterback Sean Charette.
The Dragon defense set the tone during the Lakers? first possession when senior defensive end Andrew Shafkalis sacked the West Bloomfield quarterback. He followed that play up by recovering a fumble and running in Lake Orion’s second touchdown.
The Dragons were up 14 – 0 just a few minutes into the first quarter.
King scored his second touchdown after the Laker offensive push died at their own forty-yard line. With just over two minutes left in the first quarter, the Dragons led 21-0. .
The rest of the game followed suit, with only untimely penalties marring an otherwise solid performance.
Head Coach Chris Bell said he was pleased with the team, adding it is beginning to ‘show flashes of being pretty good.?
‘We had our best week of practice yet and it carried over to the game,? he said. ‘We executed at a high level and dominated all aspects of the game in the first half.
‘I’m very pleased with how our offensive and defensive lines are playing.?
Lake Orion gained 400 yards more on offense for the third straight game. Bell noted that in high school football, gaining 300 or more yards means a team usually wins.
Other notable performances mentioned by Bell include senior Jacob Miller who is ‘playing very well,? and had one touchdown; junior Derric Williams and Shafkalis have been ‘all over the field the last couple of games.?
King had a total of four receptions and three touchdowns. Charette finished with two touchdown throws, completing nine of 11 passes for 190 yards.
Up next for the defending state champs is Royal Oak, which, according to Bell, features a new coaching staff. The Ravens are 1-3, having lost last week to Troy Athens, 56-0.
