Art of Marriage

Brandon Twp.- Shane Stec has been happily married to his wife, Carrie, for 15 years, but he believes even healthy marriages need continuous nurturing to stay that way.
With this in mind, Oakwood Community Church, where Stec is associate pastor, will host ‘The Art of Marriage,? a video conference that will take place from 7 p.m.-9:30 p.m., Feb. 10 and 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m., Feb. 11, at the church, 5791 Oakwood Road.
‘We all come in to marriage with expectations and no one is perfect,? notes Stec. ‘We let each other down. There are financial challenges, tragedies occur and there are so many things that happen in life. It takes a lot of work to make a marriage go well.?
‘The Art of Marriage? is published by FamilyLife, and is a new marriage series for the Arkansas-based, nationwide ministry. The video conference features six sessions: ‘Love Happens,? ‘Love Fades,? ‘Love Dances,? ‘Love Interrupted,? ‘Love Sizzles,? and ‘Love Always.?
Stec said the topics of the sessions include communication, conflict resolution, sexual intimacy, health in marriage, and leaving a legacy as a couple and family? the impact you can have on your children and their future families.
‘A lot of people get into marriage and sometimes people don’t feel like they love each other anymore, or they have anger,? Stec said. ‘We will deal with those kinds of issues and being romantic and pursuing a relationship with each other.?
Marriages can be stressed by outside forces, such as the current economy. The seminar is for couples in marriages under strain as well as happily married couples, engaged couples, or even dating couples.
‘If you want to grow in a deeper way in your marriage, you are invited to come relax and have a good time and learn to communicate.?
Cost for ‘The Art of Marriage? video conference is $59 per couple if registered by Feb. 5, and includes two workbooks, lunch on Saturday, all snacks, and some giveaways for date night. After Feb. 5, the cost is $69 per couple. Register online at www.oakwoodcc.org or call 248-628-6388.
