Swimmers sink Rochester

After a very tightly matched meet, with the score bumping back and forth between teams, the Oxford Boys? Swim and Dive Team increased their season record to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the OAA White Division after defeating Rochester in the pool 104-81 on Jan. 17.
‘We knew it was going to be a very close meet, and the score looks better than it really was due to a Rochester disqualification in the 200 Freestyle Relay,? said Swim and Dive Coach Jacquelyn Rank. ‘Oxford still would have won the meet, but by a much smaller margin.?
Exciting races included Jared Butler who touched second to Jacob Carl in 100 meter freestyle. Butler set a personal best and school record time with 48:07 Blake Hibdon came in third for Oxford.
The 100 meter breaststroke was another close one as Erik Vandecar came in second to Brien Moffitt with a personal best and new school record of 1:06:52 Chad Scribner and James Beaupied finished in third and fourth place respectively, both with personal best times.
Other results include: 200 Medley Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of Stresky, Vandecar, Hibdon, and Jones took second place with a time of 1:50.47.
200 Freestyle: Sophomore Cheyne Stresky took first place with a personal best time of 1:55.06. Lewis Marshall came in fourth for Oxford.
200 Individual Medley: Junior Erick Vandecar came in second place with a time of 2:12.15. Armando Vega and Chad Scribner came in fourth and fifth place respectively, both with personal best times;
50 Freestyle: Senior Jarred Butler came in first with a time of 22.67. Sean Terry and Corey Jones finished in third and fourth place respectively.
Diving: Junior Marco Campagiorni took first with a score of 208.10. Jarred Tasch finished in second place;
100 Butterfly: Freshman Armando Vega finished in first place with a personal best time of 59.50. Tim Cook came in third for Oxford.
500 Freestyle: Cheyne Stresky came in 1st with a time of 5:07.23. Lewis Marshall came in second and Doug Butkiewicz, in his first time swimming the event, came in fifth.
200 Freestyle Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of Hibdon, Jones, Vega, and Butler came in first with a time of 1:36.97. Oxford’s B Relay of Scribner, Tuski, Deplaunty, and Marshall came in second place.
100 Backstroke: Junior Blake Hibdon came in second place with a time of 1:03.41. Corey Jones finished in fourth place with a season-best time.
400 Freestyle Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of Stresky, Vega, Vandecar, and Butler finished in first place with a time of 3:33.54. Oxford’s B Relay of Terry, Tuski, Marshall, and Butkiewicz came in third place.
‘The boys really pulled together and set personal best times and school records,? Rank said.
Oxford hosts Bloomfield Hills Andover High School at its final home meet on Thursday, Jan. 24.
