Lady hitters strike back

Lady Hitters hit and threw harder in their second game against Troy Athens last Wednesday.
They won the last game in the double header with a 9-0 shutout after losing the first game, 8-6.
“We battled back,” said Clarkston Girls Varsity Softball Coach Don Peters. “I am really proud of the girls stepping up.”
He added the big difference was Candace Kitchen coming in as pitcher and the girls making nice defensive plays behind her and hitting the ball well.
The girls scored three runs in the second and third inning to put their lead at 6-0 going into the fourth inning.
Mikayla Blaska hit 2-for-4, a triple and had two RBIs while Katie Nelson also hit a triple with one RBI.
Kitchen pitched seven innings and had five strikeouts. For hitting, she went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and one RBI.

Favazza pitched for two innings and had two strikeouts, and Madeline Maday pitched for three innings and threw four strikeouts.
“The girl we hit against in both games is one of the top ranked pitchers in the county,” Peters added. “We played very well against her.”
The girls went 3-2 during the weekend in the University of Michigan tournament, losing in the quarterfinals.
“I am really proud of the girls,” said Peters. “We are pushing through some adversity. We have five kids out with injuries and they are playing tough. Sydney got hurt this weekend and the kids keep coming up to the plate and keep playing hard.”
Blaska hit a grand slam homerun in the 9-1 win over East Kentwood. Favazza hit a homerun, had three RBIs, and hit 3-for-3. Katelyn Kuenzel hit a double and Vieira had one RBI. Maday pitched five innings and had two strikeouts.
The girls beat Garden City, 7-2. During the game Makenzie King hit a triple and had one RBI; Vieira hit 2-for-3 and had three RBIs and Abby Skvarce had two RBIs. Kitchen pitched six innings and had five strikeouts.
They beat Ann Arbor, 14-0 and Skvarce hit a double, went 3-for-3 with one RBI; Favazza hit a double, went 2-for-3 with two RBIs; King hit a triple with one RBI; Nelson hit 3-for-3 and had two RBIs; and Vieira had two RBIs. Maday was the winning pitcher. She threw four innings and had five strikeouts.
The Lady Wolves opened the week against Rochester Adams on Tuesday. They host Goodrich in a double header on Thursday, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
“They are both good teams,” said Peters. “I am looking forward to playing them, then into districts.”
