Grants enable field trips to Seven Ponds
A $10,000 grant from the Four County Community Foundation will enable the Seven Ponds Nature Center in Dryden to provide nature-themed field trips to students at Daniel Axford and Oxford elementaries in May and October.
Oxford is one of seven school districts whose students will be provided field trips to Seven Ponds this year under this grant. It’s all part of the nature center’s ‘Let’s Get Children Outdoors? project.
The goal is to provide kids with outdoor experiences that help them develop an appreciation for nature by familiarizing them with common trees, wildflowers, birds, mammals and other organisms.
Decorate cookies, meet Easter Bunny
Guess who’s hopping all the way to Oxford this weekend?
The one and only Easter Bunny!
E.B., as he’s known to friends, will be at the Sweet & Savory Bake Shop (9 S. Washington St.) in downtown Oxford from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12.
Children of all ages are invited to chat with E.B., pose for photos with him and of course, decorate some yummy Easter cookies with colorful icing and sprinkles. There will be other activities as well.
As always, the event is free, but the bake shop will be accepting donations for CARE House of Oakland County, an organization that offers intervention, prevention and treatment programs to deal with child abuse and neglect.
Videos wanted for Sherman roast
Can’t attend the April 12 Rotary Club roast honoring former Oxford Leader publisher James A. Sherman, Sr., but still want to get your licks and/or well wishes in?
Folks are invited to e-mail video clips with personal messages for Sherman to OxfordRotaryClub@gmail.com
Video messages will be played during the roast, so keep it short, keep it clean and make it entertaining. This is your chance to finally tell Big Jim Sherman what you think of him ? again, keep it clean.
Those with questions about doing a video can e-mail them to the same address.
