Lake Orion boys win first meet, look for more

The Lake Orion Dragons boy’s track team got off to a great start last week by winning a meet against Stoney Creek and Oxford.
Coach Stan Ford’s boys looked sharp as they mixed some of the Dragon’s experienced runners with some new faces.
The team looked good and Ford said he is excited for the season to get underway.
‘We are looking forward to the season for several reasons,? he said. ‘First is for our senior captains. They have all been all-state in their respective events and we want to see them go there again.?
The four, Corey Ester, Zach Arnold, David Diaz and Kirk Hansen, are among some of the best in the state.
‘With that experience, we also have a real good sophomore and freshman class and it’s going to take some effort from those guys, especially the sophomores that will help this team do very well. When those who are seniors now were sophomores they really helped the team.?
That help led to a state title for the group.
‘The sophomores now can really step up and help us. We might not be as deep as we have been int eh past but we can move our assets around and do very well,? Ford said.
Sophomore Andrew Lorant was one of those who stepped up and did a great job in the 1,600 and 3,200 distances against Stoney Creek and Oxford, winning both races in convincing fashion.
Ester won both the 100 and 200 dashes. Sheldon Drake won the 400. Hansen won the 800 in 1:59.1
Lorant’s winning time of 4:30 in the mile was closely followed by Diaz in second place.
Matt Arenz got a third in the 3,200.
Lake Orion won all four relays.
Ford said he was pleased with the win and a little surprised how well some of his runners stepped up and performed very well.
‘We are surprised every year and we want to be,? he said, smiling.
