The Re-Create Recycled Show at the Orion Art Center drew a large crowd Wednesday night, all hoping to get a first look at the natured-themed exhibit.
Artists turned trash into treasure in the popular show which is sponsored by Waste Management.
Creations this year include a deer made of motorcycle parts, a corset sewn from tire inner tubes and entries that mix disposables from camera parts and fast food containers to cardboard and ski blades.
The annual show contains more than 60 entries this year with more than $1,000 in prizes awarded in five different categories from children to adult.
Director Lauren Dinneweth is pleased with the quality of entries that reflect this year’s nature theme, Birds, Bees and Trees.
‘Every creation tells a story, a cycle of things that were once useful and could have ended up in the trash. Instead they were rescued by an artist and now have a new life.?
She said the show is a favorite because it’s for all ages.
In May, eighth graders from Scripps Middle School will visit the grounds of the Art Center to test the health of the Paint Creek.
In a lesson that mixes both the art and science of the environment, they’ll also visit the recycled show and create their own art.
