As the weather gets warmer, Green’s Park gets fuller.
This safe and welcoming park is now open for all residents of Lake Orion and Orion Township, with opportunities for locals to take advantage of the area.
Rosemary Ford, Village Parks and Recreation Committee member, explained that Green’s Park offers many amenities, making it one of the safest parks in the area. Certified lifeguards are on duty during all park hours over viewing the lake along with bathrooms, picnic tables, basketball and volleyball courts and swing sets.
‘Lifeguards require big kids to pass a simple swim test before swimming out to the raft. What they have found is that there are bigger kids that do not know how to swim and we don’t want them swimming out that far if they don’t know what they’re doing,? Ford said. ‘It’s another safety feature.?
Swimming lessons are available, $50 for Village residents and $80 for Orion Township residents and non-residents, which are two-week long sessions for 45 minutes each day.
‘We’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from swim lessons. The people that come say that they want their children to know how to swim in a lake because there is a big difference from pool to lake,? Ford said. ‘It’s good for the kids to build there confidence by coming back every day.?
There are three upcoming swim lesson sessions: June 23 -July 4, July 7-July 18, and July 21-August 1.
If non-village residents are interested in using Green’s Park for the summer, passes can be purchased either for the season or individual days. Village residents pay $25, while non-residents pay $50 and $5 for single passes. Senior discounts are available.
‘It has a beautiful setting. You can look out and see all the activity on Lake Orion. It’s a good environment and there are people there keeping an eye on things,? Ford said.
Park attendees may reserve a portion of the area for a variety of gatherings. In the past, there have been graduation parties, bridal showers and birthday parties.
Those interested in swim lessons, season passes, or reserving the park can contact Village Hall, Monday through Friday, located in downtown Lake Orion. For further questions, you can contact the village office at (248) 693-8391.
