Working with words

Oakland Summer Writers Camp students enjoyed a field trip to downtown Clarkston to visit the Mill Pond to write a story about their observations.
Writers Camp Coordinator Phyllis Ness said teachers help students learn the craft of writing.
‘We work to help them see the world through the eyes of a writer,? said Ness. ‘We teach them to be observant and use those skills to write stories, and continue to grow as writers.?
Writers and their instructors had lunch in Depot Park after working on a story.
The camp is part of the Oakland Writing Project and a National Writing Project. Students meet at the Clarkston Community Education Building during the two-week camp, and take a field trip each Friday.
