Citing health reasons, Addison Township Trustee John Sutphin submitted a letter of resignation effective Sept. 30.
‘At this time, I would like to thank all the people that put their trust in me as they elected me to serve four consecutive terms of office (as) trustee,? Sutphin wrote in his letter. ‘It has been a pleasure working with the board members and the township officials. It has been both a privilege and an honor to serve the people of this community.?
Sutphin previously served on the Addison Townships Fire Board from the early 1970s to 2000 and on the North Oakland Transportation Authority Board. He has been the Addison Township representative for Oakland County’s No Haz Program since 2003.
‘We certainly will miss him. He’s been a dedicated trustee to the township for many, many years,? said Supervisor Bruce Pearson. ‘He’s been there a long time and we’re certainly going to miss him.?
Once the resignation takes effect at the end of next month, Pearson said the board will discuss a replacement and appointment a replacement to the position.
‘I’d always tell people that he was my Rock of Gibraltar,? Pearson added. ‘If I had questions or doubts, he always had some encouraging message for me.?
Sutphin did not return a phone call seeking comment.
