It was another successful year for the students of Oxford Elementary, Clear Lake and Daniel Axford who participated in the Academic Games.
Academic Games challenges students in math, language arts and social studies.
Of the 22 students who participated in the state tournament in Grand Rapids, many of whom brought home medals, six of the students qualified and traveled to Orlando for nationals.
Those students who went to the national tournament were Michael Brown, Faith Diegek, Andrew Haselton, Logan Shaefer, and Dakota Streeter from Oxford Elementary and Owen Avey from Clear Lake.?
‘The players, all fifth-graders, played very well in their first year competing at this level and competing against more experienced 6th graders,? said Coach Connie Ginste. Owen Avey had turned in an outstanding performance in the game of logic scoring 23 out of 24 points. He won three rounds and scoring a tie for first place in the fourth round.?
The students placed fourth out 17 teams. ‘The players are looking forward to a new season beginning in September and hope for a return trip to the national,? Ginste said.
